Kortney Schutt has been a passionate supporter of Falcon Athletics for many years. As a former athlete, she knows firsthand what it takes to represent Friends University and what it feels like to compete for a school that means so much to her.
After graduating, Schutt returned to the university as a graduate assistant. Her role eventually evolved into a volunteer position, where she continues to offer her expertise in content creation, social media branding, and capturing the moments that make Falcon Athletics special.
“The work that I do is important to me because I love this place and I love what I do,” said Schutt. “I love getting to know more people here and creating an environment that’s true to what the Friends mission states. A highlight for me is when I get to deliver a product that other schools at the NAIA level aren’t getting.”
A Passion for Sports
Schutt’s journey in athletics began long before her time at Friends University. As a Wichita area native, she grew up heavily involved in sports. After college, she ventured into graphic design, video editing, and social media management, working at various colleges before returning to Friends.
“I coached track and field at three separate colleges before landing back here at Friends to pursue more of the social media branding and presence on a university-wide scale,” said Schutt.
Now working in residence life on campus, Schutt has the unique opportunity to collaborate across departments, further enhancing her impact on the university community.
A Special Bond
Throughout her time with Falcon Athletics, Schutt has formed special connections with the people around her. As an athlete, she cherishes the memories of conference championships and being an All-American with the track and field program. As a staff member, she has had the privilege of witnessing the achievements of the teams and capturing the excitement of their victories.
“I have a lot of really great memories with Falcon Athletics,” said Schutt. “As a staff member, I love getting to travel with the track team to the 2024 Indoor Track and Field Championships for conference and watch the guys win their indoor conference title. That was really special.”
In addition to the athletes and coaches, Schutt recognizes the behind-the-scenes heroes who contribute to the success of Falcon Athletics. From trainers to administrators, she appreciates the dedication and hard work they put into building a strong community and culture.
“There are a lot of special people at Friends,” said Schutt. “When I came back and helped in that admin kind of role, I got to see what all of these incredible people do and how much they work and show up to everything regardless of their outside commitments. They really prioritize the community and culture here.”
